Computer Time

This is where I have been spending most of my time lately.

I bought myself a new laptop for Christmas.  I had a laptop that the oldest boy stepped on and cracked the screen.  For a short while it was workable as there was just a small football shaped black mark on the screen.  But as I kept using it, the crack and the blank spots on the screen grew into what looked like a beautiful bird, wings spread plucking a worm from the ground.  When I started to see images in the blank spots, I broke down and got a new laptop with a bigger screen and a "Do Not Set on the Floor" policy.

So with this new gaget I have been digging into all of my classes.  Today I leave you with a new writing prompt from Misty Mawn's class.  It is a silly one, just for fun.

I am the.....

pen in the canister, eagerly waiting to tell my tale.

Will today be the day she lets me dance across the paper?

Or is this just a normal Thursday spent upside down, drying out.

Oh, the things I could tell her....

She has no idea what the pencils are saying about her.

XOXO

Sunday Sketches

Whew!  That is all I can say.  I have been busy over here with all of these classes that I am taking.  They are very time consuming but so inspiring and so very eye opening.  So, most of my free time has been spent in front of the computer and not making art.

I did however get a chance last night to sit and sketch for a while.  I was using my Stabilo Marks-All pencils that I have had forever and not really used.  I had no idea that if you got them wet they would sort of act like a water color pencil. Oh the possibilities.

Jump over to Sophia's blog and check out all of the other Sunday Sketches.

Awards and Thank You!

On Sunday I had a sweet surprise from my friend Jenny at Love and Peas.  She gave me one of her Stylish Blogger Awards.  I had seen this award on a lot of the blogs that I visit and I am honored that Jenny added me to her list. It is a sweet way to acknowledge the people who make you smile everyday.

By accepting the award you must:
#1-Link back to the person who gave it to you.
#2-Tell 7 things about yourself
#3-Pay it forward by nominating 15 other bloggers.

So here we go:

1.  I am a total book junkie.  I order books from Amazon, buy them from Barnes and Noble, check them out of the Library and download them from iTunes.  In our house we have 6 bookshelves that are full of books as well as an attic that has bags of kids books.  I keep asking for more bookshelves....my husband wants to get me a Nook.

2.  Despite my love of words, I CANNOT spell.  I thank the creator of spell check everyday.

3.  I met my husband in the 3rd grade.  We were not high school sweethearts, but he will tell you that we sat next to each other in 3rd grade and I used to pinch his leg.   I don’t remember that, but what I do remember is him following me home from school one day calling me Smelly Hardhead (my maiden name is Harding)

4.  I am a GLEEK!!!!  My iTunes are full of Glee songs. I wish people broke out in song in everyday life.   In my head, life is a musical.

5.  I collect (read hoard) notebooks.  I have loads of them.  I don’t even write in them.  I buy them because the covers are pretty.  If you open them up you will probably only find scribbles and I WILL NOT (fill in the blank) lists from my two boys.

6.  The first cassette that I ever bought with my own money was the Monkees 20th Anniversary Album.

7.  My favorite movie is Steel Magnolias.  I can pretty much recite most of the lines from the movie.  In fact, my wedding shower cake was a Red Velvet Armadillo just like the grooms cake from the movie.

O.K.   My list of Stylish Blogger Awards goes to:

This list is also like my blog roll, some ladies of which I know and some of which I wish I knew.  These are the ladies that I go to everyday to read what is going on in their lives and see the lovelies that they are making.  They are also the ladies that give me inspiration to move forward in this creative journey.   When I need inspiration, I look to them.

I thank them all.

If you believe it, you can achieve it.

I know this is so cliche.  But isn't that the truth.  It isn't enough to say you want something, you need to believe that you can have that something.

I am believing more and more in what seemed to be impossible.

Take some time this week to believe

XOXO

New Classes for 2011!

I come from...

small town America, a wonderful mistake.
a child with a child, each raising the other.
a broken home, but raised by a tribe of strong women and tall men.
laughter, singing and bright color.
musicals and black and white movies.
yellow banana seat bikes and twirling batons.
hometown football games and picnic volleyball.
forever love and legacy.
too little and too much, but just right for me.

This is the first ever poem that I wrote.  It was a mini assignment that Misty Mawn gave us for her new class that starts on Monday.   It was so much fun to write.  I really think I would like to write more poetry in this style.   We will see what happens...
I am in class mode again.  I am in FOUR classes!  Two have started already(Big Dreams, Small Wonders and Unraveling)and two start on Monday; Stretching Within and Shifting Ground. (see the sidebar for the links.) There were about 5 more that I wanted to take, but I have my limitations :)
Is anyone taking any classes to start out the new year?

Welcome 2011! Joy is Yours!

2011 has been so eagerly anticipated.  There is such promise and hope in a new year, but for some reason 2011 seems to hold bigger hopes and bigger dreams than any other year that I can remember.

On Dec 31st, I looked at my horoscope.  This is something that I rarely do.  It read "A number of substantial opportunities are hovering over you, regarding both tangible situations and intangible circumstances.  Breaks could be happening for you in each venue."

Then I read my Wishing Well.  Do you have this in your papers?

It decodes to a phrase.  My Dec 31st phrase is Joy is Yours.  Seems like a pretty good theme for the year, don't you think.

Oh 2011, big things are going to happen!
