Day #5 AEDM- From Where I Sit

This is what I see from where I sit tonight.

What a beautiful mess, right!

For tonight's AEDM challenge, I am working on a journal page.  I am in a circle journal with some great women that I met at Artfest this year.  We are passing journals all over the USA and each month we do a page/spread/layout in another person's journal.  This particular journal is individual pieces of gessoed (is there such a word?) instructions for vinyl flooring.  It will be bound together when its owner gets it back.

This has been an extremely rewarding experience.  Each month there is a different theme to think about and create a piece of art from that theme.  They have ranged from favorite song lyric, to the color red.   This journal theme is favorite quote. For months when creative time was at a minimum, this circle journal swap was all that got me going.  It was something that HAD to be done so I would take the time for myself to create.

I think that is why I joined the AEDM  challenge.  I have committed to doing this challenge and that is why today I made the time to sit at my art table and be creative when I could have just vegged out in front of the T.V.
I am realising that my creative dreams need to be nurtured and explored so that they can become reality.  This is why my favorite quote right now is this:

"How does one become a butterfly?" she asked.
"You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar." he said.
Unknown.

Here's to becoming a butterfly!

  1. I'm loving your art table, *sigh*.. But where are the leggos? :D I think it's such a wonderful idea to do a joint project with different people, you really get to see other people's styles and get introduced to different mediums and things one might not have thought of before..

With love from one Butterfly to the Other.

  3. Your circle journal sounds like fun!(And that looks like a beautiful page)
I have used the word gessoed often - so if it isn't a word (and blogger doesn't seem to think it is! hee hee) you and I will make it one!

  5. I love your blog's title! I participated in AEDM last year and it was such an uplifting experience. I think the idea of striving to become a butterfly fits the experience perfectly.

  6. Yes there is such thing as a beautiful mess, and you made one!

That quotation at the end of your post is fantastic. My kids have this little book about a caterpillar who is trying to figure out who he's going to be and I just adore the book because each time I read it to them it reminds me of who I need to be.

    Your butterfly piece is gorgeous.

  9. I've just started with a journal circle as well. I agree, it is something to keep you committed when the lazies start to take hold. Great job keeping up with AEDM! I'm doing that too!
